Bud Lemke in White Jersey at Helvetia 1975 - Mom / Carolyn Photo

Helvetia Park Motocross 1975

Back in 1975 A NorCal Bultaco rider by the name of Bud Lemke who is a friend of mine and Longtime close friend of Jody Gentry - Crashed on a fast straight part of the track and hit a huge Oak tree – The Tree didn’t budge –

Bud Lemke Helvetia Park 1975 - (My mom / Carolyn took this photo)

My twin brother Todd saw it happen and said Bud Cart-wheeled a few times and impacted the tree real hard - and he looked real dazed and confused as he just sat there for a moment or two at the base of the tree next to the track, and I remember hearing the track announcer asking someone to check on the rider next to the track because they couldn't start the next race until he was away from the track. It got real quiet as all the riders at the starting gate shut off their engines - My brother also told me that Bud sat there for a minute or so and then got up and stood for a few seconds looking at the tree? and then walked a few feet and stopped - A track worker walked up to him and then a few minutes later - I remember hearing the track announcer ask "Does anyone know the rider in the white Jersey next to the track?" "Because he doesn't know who he is right now" Or something like that. And that's when I looked and saw that it was Bud. I think a friend of his came and got him.

Finally the Races were back underway Yea!

As the large Towering Oak tree just stood there waiting for its next victim. Muwahahaha!

Bud Lemke didn't know who or where he was for a few minutes. – I have been there myself my friend – But that’s another One Time Ago Story – Ha-ha

I talked to him about it a few years ago but I don't remember what he told me about that day, if he even remembered anything or not? I will find out again and write it down this time.
