Have you ever chased after a rainbow?
Believing there was a pot of gold at the end?
Well, when we were about 8 or 9 years old, me and my two brothers did, One Time Ago back in 1969. Out in acres and acres of tall grassy fields separated by bob wire fences.
But never again. You see…
We gave up when we soon realized
That it was useless to keep trying.
As it seemed that, the farther we ran,
The further it appeared.
Also, we soon found out that when looking up
As we chased after that elusive Rainbow,
wasn’t such a good idea either
especially during a windswept rainstorm.
We unknowingly ran right into a trench
full of mucky water and sunk up to our necks,
which soaked our clothes all the way into our bones I tell ya!
So ya Never again!
And also, us tuckered out young lads
thought we heard little Leprechaun voices
Chuckling in the wind right afterwards and
I bravely yelled “Go ahead and laugh! – will ya’s!
- We will find your Pot of Gold next time!”
knowing full well that there will never be a next time.
my voice swiftly drifting in the wind... making an eerie echo and then suddenly...
A bolt of lightning flashed across the sky right in front of us and then seconds later a clash of thunder filled the air!

It was very very frightening! Especially being out in the middle of nowhere, without anywhere to hide or take cover. So we took off running! We ended up at the back of a high school where a Saturday football game was being played.
We were so thirsty by then and when we saw there were cups filled with Gatorade just sitting there in a tray, nothing was stopping us from grabbing one and then another and then one more each. guzzling them down as fast as we could and sure enough, someone shouted, "Hey those drinks are for the players!" So we said sorry and thanks and started on our way back to wherever it was we came from?
I can't remember why or how we ended up way out in the grassy fields in the first place? I believe Chasing Rainbows was an afterthought.
But alas – it would be our first and last time
We ever tried chasing after rainbows.
ever again.
True story...
Well except the part about the leprechauns...
I believe Gold to a leprechaun is like Catnip to a Cat. Makes them go berserk and do strange things and they can't get enough of it. That's why they always want more, more, more! and of course they get their kicks out of playing games with it.
"Catch me pot of Gold if yez can! He-he-he!"
The tale of these little varmints –
Getting fools to chase after rainbows, searching for their ever-elusive Gold - and just when they think they're gaining ground, these little munchkin types disappear it away, laughing with glee every time!

always playing tricks on poor souls minds when they thought they were near, only to be disillusioned time after time.
Has anyone actually ever found the leprechauns Pot of Gold? Or is it just an illusion, a spell bound game they play on humans?

Us boys were told by our grandfather that we have a wee bit of Irish heritage in our genes so maybe that’s why we believed it to be true and couldn’t resist when we saw a rainbow. – We were so close I tell ya!
They’d be Tricky little Fellas!
I think the little guys felt sorry for us
because shortly after we left the football game, the rain stopped and the clouds suddenly parted and a small ray of sunlight shined down in the very spot that we stopped to rest and started to dry our clothes and warmed us up a bit.

Ahhh.
Heck, I would be fine with just one wee coin from their Pot of Gold! Just so I would know that it's for reals.
The End
